PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
SuperPOSS 2002 is a powerful, efficient, point-of-sale back office management system designed expressly for the food and drug industry. It provides complete control over the pricing of store merchandise, simplifies tracking of the store's inventory movement and affords effective means for systematizing many facets of store operations.

SuperPOSS 2002 is designed to function in two capacities:
· As a stand-alone system-independent stores where all pricing and item movement functions are carried out at the store in which SuperPOSS 2002 is installed.
· In host systems-in stores where SuperPOSS 2002 handles most operations, but also receives some pricing information via modem from the host computer at a wholesaler's warehouse or company headquarters.

SuperPOSS 2002 can communicate with host computers that use one of the following file formats: AHSTMT, SFX, SIL, Unified Western Grocers, Associated Grocers and SuperValu.

With SuperPOSS 2002, your store's computer becomes the nucleus of store operations. SuperPOSS 2002 is available on Windows NT, XP, 2000, 95/98, and UNIX operating systems and is compatible with the following registers systems: NCR 2123, 2126, 2127, 2170, and ScanMaster; ICL ISS45; Datasym GR6000; Velocity.

Complete Price Management
With SuperPOSS 2002, you can create and maintain a price look-up file containing pricing, inventory and movement information for every item in your store.

  • Check, change, add or delete price lookup information for any item with a few simple keystrokes
  • Enter price changes at the computer, then send them to the POS terminal immediately, or schedule them to take effect on a specific date
  • Have SuperPOSS 2002 reduce prices for an advertising promotion when a sale begins and return prices to their regular levels when the sale ends
  • In hosted systems, use SuperPOSS 2002 to integrate price file maintenance performed at the host computer, in-store computer, and POS terminal.
  • Create and maintain a negative check file at your store's computer using SuperPOSS 2002's convenient negative check file management functions (not available on ICL ISS45, NCR 2170, and ScanMaster).

Enhanced Movement Fields
All of the movement fields are accessible from the PLU maintenance screen. These fields are available in the following time frames: The last 7 individual days of movement, last 13 weeks, the last 5 quarters, and 4 user-defined periods. SuperPOSS 2002 has a range of reports for printing a variety of user-configurable movement summary and PLU level movement reports. Once you have specified the criteria for which items are to be included in a report, you can choose the order in which the movement data is to be sorted: by UPC, vendor item number, gross margin, total retail or number of units sold. In each case, you can provide reports comparing daily, weekly, quarterly or periodic movement; limit the report to items in one or more specified departments; and specify whether you want the data sorted in order by department number, gross margin, total retail or number of units sold. The PLU level movement report options let you print or display register daily, weekly, periodic, or quarterly movement reports that list movement data by individual PLU item, with summary lines showing totals by department, category or vendor. You can limit any of these reports to:

  • Items whose UPC's fall within a specific number range
  • Items whose vendor item numbers fall within a specific range
  • "Fast Movers"-items that have sold more than a specified average number of units per selected time period
  • "Slow Movers"-items that have sold fewer than a specified average number of units per selected time period
  • "Zero Movers"-items that have sold no units during the reported range of time periods
  • The first (n) items as determined by the PLU sort (see below), where (n) is a user-specified value
  • Items affected by a specified promo
  • Or you can simply elect to include all items in the PLU file

Finally, you can choose whether to have the system format the report so that each item's UPC or its vendor item number appears in the first column. The movement summary report options let you print or display movement summaries broken down by vendor, department or category.

Features and Functions
SuperPOSS 2002 is "menu-driven". At each step it tells users what to do by listing options in a "menu" on the screen. In some menus the options are functions or commands available to you at a given point in a procedure. In other menus they call up sub-menus designed to guide you step by step through the systems. Each main function corresponds to a major branch of the system:

A. PLU Maintenance:
Use this option to set up and maintain SuperPOSS 2002 price look-up (PLU) file. This function lets you:

  • Examine, add, change and delete PLU item records
  • Transmit to the register any PLU file modifications you make with SuperPOSS 2002
  • Change item prices at your computer, then transmit the new prices to the register
  • Apply price changes immediately or store them in a batch, to be sent to the register later, on a specified date
  • Change prices permanently or temporarily-SuperPOSS 2002 can automatically apply sale prices and return them to their regular values on dates you specify
  • Display item movement data for the current item in daily, weekly, periodic/quarterly.

B. Batch Maintenance Functions:
Use this option to:

  • Transmit batches to your master cash register either immediately or during the next end-of-day processing routine, regardless of the batches' effective dates
  • Reset batches that were scheduled to be transmitted to the register during end-of-day processing, so they can be sent immediately or rescheduled for another date
  • Delete batches from the batch maintenance file
  • Edit or delete the individual file modification records contained in your batches
  • Print or display the individual file modification records contained in your batches
  • Change batches' effective dates, expiration dates and titles.

    C. Register Reporting (Historical Reporting for ScanMaster, ICL, Datasym):
SuperPOSS 2002 register reports (2170, 2127 only) provide detailed breakdowns of your store's sales activity based on data retrieved from the master cash registers. It produces daily register reports and historical reports that summarize data recorded over a specified time period

    D. End of Day Processing:
Run this option at the close of each business day. End of Day Processing is the hub of SuperPOSS 2002 automatic functions. It's when most routine data exchanges take place between the in-store computer and the master cash register, and when many of the system's routine reports are printed.

You can customize the system's end-of-day processing routine to perform any or all of the following functions:
  • Send to the master cash register any PLU and negative/positive check file maintenance batches created at the in-store computer or host computer that are scheduled for application on the current date.
  • Delete batches marked for deletion in the batch maintenance file, then reorganize the file.
  • Retrieve the register's daily register financial data and use it to print daily register financial reports and to update the system's historical register files.
  • Retrieve movement data from the register and use it to update the sales analysis history and promo files.
  • Retrieve and reformat data stored on the cash register's item data collect cassette tape or disk.
  • Create accounts receivable data from data collect for interfacing to third party AR packages.

Print a series of reports, including, a batch maintenance report, and End of Day error report and any other error reports that might be pertinent.

E. Special Functions:
The special functions are grouped under three headings-
The Register functions let you:

  • Retrieve PLU file modifications directly from the master cash register's maintenance file Purge the file
  • Print a Batch Maintenance Audit report showing which modifications in the register's maintenance file were applied at the register and which could not be applied for some reason
  • Incorporate the modifications that were successfully applied at the register into SuperPOSS 2002 PLU file.

    The Maintenance functions let you:

  • Set up and maintain a department file in SuperPOSS 2002 containing department numbers and descriptions for your store's departments. The system prints the descriptions on Promotional Movement and Sales Analysis reports, where they are more informative than the brief and often-cryptic four-character register descriptors
  • Delete PLU item records whose UPC's fall within a specified number range or the records of items that have shown no movement since a specified comparison date and records all items, regardless of department, that have shown no movement since a specified comparison date
  • Categorize store items to allow simultaneous price changes for entire product lines and groups of items; display movement.

The Reporting functions let you:

  • Print a report listing PLU item records with expired and un-expired hold-down dates
  • Produce a PLU file listing that shows in summary form the data included in each item record
  • List the promos in SuperPOSS 2002 promo file
  • Print or display a comparison report detailing discrepancies between SuperPOSS 2002 PLU file and that of the master register

Print inventory movement reports based on data retrieved from the master register. This can be selected items in your store, selected departments or even selected manufacturers and vendors.

    F. PLU File Builds:
This option provides several functions for building a new PLU file (or updating). You can:

  • Build a new PLU file for the master based on you in-store computer's version of the file
  • Build a new PLU file for the computer based on the register's file
  • Build a new PLU file for your computer based on the host computer's file
  • Update SuperPOSS 2002 PLU file based on the register's file-only the register fields of the computer's file records are affected
  • Update SuperPOSS 2002 PLU file based on the host computer's file
  • Update SuperPOSS 2002 PLU file to include item records from an ITM- or ISP- formatted DSD or IMS file.
  • The PLU File Build option also provides functions for sending a host computer a copy of the SuperPOSS 2002 PLU file, using the SFX communications protocol. This file can be formatted as a register movement file or as a register comparison file

    G. File Management:
This function allows you to reorganize and "tidy up" your primary SuperPOSS 2002 files so they take up less space on your hard disk.

H. Direct Store Delivery:
Direct Store Delivery (DSD) will provide quick and accurate "back door receiving" via FM or keyboard fully integrated with your POS scan file. The FM RECEIVING lets you check the numbers and dollar amounts on vendor invoices against the actual number of items delivered. You can record the return of spoiled or damaged items, as well as free units offered by your vendor. Once you have noted all items received and returned, you can compare the vendor's figures with your own, make any necessary adjustments and print your own invoice of the transaction.
Vendor invoices printed with this option include:

  • The vendor's invoice number
  • The date on which receipt of goods was recorded
  • The vendor's name, address and phone number
  • Your store's name, address and phone number
  • A list of the items received, returned or entered in adjustment-including each items' PLU number, department, retail case quantity, size, description, case cost (S/COST), retail cost (U/SELL), gross margin percentage, number of cases received and extended cost (E/COST-the case cost times the number of cases received)
  • The total number of cases and units of all items received, returned or provided by the vendor for free
  • The total retail value of the items received (TOTAL SALE)
  • The total gross margin percentage for all items received
  • The total value of returned items
  • Vendor's invoice total
  • Your own invoice total based on items actually received (TOTAL INVOICE)
  • The difference between your total and the vendor's total
  • The vendor's terms, as recorded in you DSD vendor file
  • The discount you will receive if you pay the vendor within the period specified by the vendor's terms
  • The discounted total (TOTAL).

I. Managerial Functions:

  • Change your system's communications settings
  • Customize SuperPOSS 2002 End of Day Processing routine
  • Change the colors of SuperPOSS 2002 screens and menus.

    J. Sales Analysis/Inventory:
This option allows you to keep track of inventory movement by recording in a movement file the quantity of each item sold in the store. SuperPOSS 2002 lets you retrieve that data and use it to update the On Hand Count, Movement Update Date, Current Movement Quantity, Current Movement Amount, Movement Quantity, Movement Amount, Alternate Movement Quantity, and Alternate Movement Amount fields. The data also provides the basis for SuperPOSS 2002 inventory status, sales analysis and promotional movement reports.

  • 13 weeks and 5 quarter movement
  • Export movement file in user defined formats
  • Saved customized reports for later use
  • Display reports on screen.

K. Label Printing:
SuperPOSS 2002 allows limited shelf tag printing and will export data to major shelf tag/signing programs. SuperPOSS 2002 also allows users to export shelf tag information to a third party label printing program.

L. Negative/Positive Checks:
This option lets you create and maintain a negative/positive check file so you can keep track of customers whose checks are unacceptable/acceptable at your store. (not available for ICL ISS45, NCR 2170, and ScanMaster)

M. PFM Network:
The optional PFM (POSS-FM) Network software lets you use one or more portable entry terminals to perform shelf audits, make on-the-spot price changes, take inventory, perform PLU file maintenance and verify direct store deliveries. While running the network, each portable entry terminal becomes, in effect, a remote computer terminal from which you can access certain SuperPOSS 2002 functions. The PFM runs in the background, leaving the keyboard free to do price changes, financial reporting, movement reporting, etc.

Currently, the PFM software is compatible with most Norand, Symbol, AML, and Telxon serial [RS232] communications FM units. Norand users must have the RM3200 multiplexer for SuperPOSS 2002.

N. Host Maintenance:
This option provides functions that let you receive PLU maintenance from a host computer that uses the following file formats:

  • PLUMNT
  • SFX
  • AHSTMT
  • Unified Western Grocers
  • Associated Grocers
  • SuperValu
  • SIL
  • Receive maintenance from Total Control Information's DSD or IMS system if it is installed on the same PC as SuperPOSS 2002.
